The essentials
If you completed probation, or were granted early termination, you can generally ask the court to withdraw your plea and dismiss the case under Penal Code section 1203.4. Some offenses are excluded.
Certain drug and theft felonies from before November 2014 can be reduced to misdemeanors under Proposition 47 if they would be misdemeanors under current law.
California's Clean Slate laws provide automatic relief for many eligible arrests and convictions. Automatic relief does not cover every case, and you can still petition the court yourself.
A dismissal does not erase the record entirely. It may still have to be disclosed for some government jobs and licenses, and it does not restore firearm rights or end sex offender registration.

For later, not for now
You don’t need to upload anything in the form. These documents can help later:
Record clearance under state law does not always remove immigration consequences. Mention it if you are not a US citizen. An enquiry does not stop any deadline.
You may still be wondering …
In general, most private employers in California cannot ask about or consider a conviction that was dismissed under 1203.4. Exceptions apply, for example for some government jobs and state licenses.
Maybe. You can check your record with the California Department of Justice or with the court. An attorney can help you read it and decide whether a petition still makes sense.
The first call is free and without obligation. If you want an attorney to take on your matter, the attorney quotes the scope and fee in writing before any work starts.
Our intake team reviews your request and gets in touch to clarify it and arrange the call. Sending the form does not create an attorney-client relationship and does not book an appointment.
