Official source ↗After a DUI arrest in San Diego County, the license case runs through the DMV's Driver Safety branch, not the court. The DMV handles many Driver Safety matters through its online case system and a statewide phone line, and hearings can be held by video or in person. Use the contact printed on your notice of suspension.
Official source ↗The San Diego Superior Court says it takes about two to three weeks for a ticket to be filed and that it mails a reminder notice about two weeks before your appearance date. The notice explains options such as paying, traffic school or appearing in court, and an appearance requires an appointment. If no notice arrives, the date on your ticket still applies. Missing it can add a failure to appear and a hold on your license. A misdemeanor citation, for example for driving on a suspended license, belongs to the criminal side of the court instead and is not resolved like an ordinary ticket.
A DUI arrest starts two cases: the court case in the courthouse named on your papers and the DMV case against your license, with its 10-day deadline to request a hearing. In the court case, the San Diego court refers DUI cases to its Substance Abuse Assessment Unit, which places people in a DUI program. Which prosecutor files the case depends on where the arrest happened. An attorney can deal with both the DMV and the court and explain how the local programs work.

It depends on where the arrest happened. In the City of San Diego misdemeanors are generally prosecuted by the City Attorney. Elsewhere in the county, and for felonies, it is generally the District Attorney.
